The Women’s Sports Foundation and Gatorade are pleased to announce the 2008 recipients of the GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards!

Teams of high school-aged girls across the country applied for one of 20 $2,500 GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards grants in order to support their girls’ programs. They are using these grants to buy equipment and uniforms and pay for transportation or tournament entry fees. Teams had to organize a community service project to get girls involved in sports and physical activity. A total of $50,000 in grants was awarded.

We applaud the 212 teams that applied for their outstanding efforts in getting more girls to become physically active so they’ll be healthier and more confident. Thanks to their efforts more girls will be active and have a healthier heart, stronger bones, less chance of cancer and diabetes, better fitness, stamina and flexibility. Although we were not able to fund all 212 teams, we hope that they continue being active role models and encouraging girls to be physically active. We thank all the teams for participating and being true Ambassadors!

Calverton Cougars Field Hockey Team - Brandywine, Md.
Southern Garrett Girls' Indoor Track Team - Oakland, Md.
Rockford Varsity Softball - Belmont, Mich.
Cambridge Rindge and Latin Varsity Gymnastics - Cambridge, Mass.
Summit Hilltoppers Basketball Team - Summit, N.J.
Special Edition Dance Team - Garfield Heights, Ohio
Northwestern Lady Cats Softball Team - Albion, Pa.
Greensburg Salem Girls' Basketball Boosters - Greensburg, Pa.
George Westinghouse Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team - Pittsburgh, Pa.
La Salle Academy Lady Rams Basketball Team - Providence, R.I.
White Knoll High School Volleyball Team - Lexington, S.C.
Henry High School - Henry, S.D.
West Brook High School Stars Dance Team - Beaumont, Texas
Bainbridge High School Girls' Cross Country - Bainbridge Island, Wash.

What is an Ambassador?

An Ambassador is a high school girl who recognizes how important being physically active is to girls and wants to make a difference by encouraging inactive girls to get moving. Official Ambassadors promise to get at least one other girl active in the next year.
